
Mistress Dispeller Trailer: Celebrated Documentary Chronicles a Mission in China to End Extramarital Relationships
Debuting at the Venice Film Festival last fall, where it garnered several awards, Elizabeth Lo’s documentary Mistress Dispeller highlights the unique role of a woman in China dedicated to ending extramarital affairs and assisting couples in maintaining their marriages. Acquired by Oscilloscope Laboratories for a release on October 22, with Constance Wu serving as executive producer, the first trailer and poster have now been unveiled.
Here’s the synopsis: “In China, a new industry has arisen aimed at helping couples remain married amidst infidelity. Wang Zhenxi is involved in this expanding field and is employed to go undercover to disrupt affairs by any means necessary; a ‘mistress dispeller.’ Providing strikingly intimate access to a real, unfolding love triangle, Mistress Dispeller explores all perspectives of what is typically kept behind closed doors. As Teacher Wang strives to reconcile a couple on the brink of crisis, sympathies fluctuate between the husband, wife, and mistress, while emotion, pragmatism, and cultural norms clash in this captivating exploration of contemporary love.”
