In tandem with its world premiere this weekend at the Venice Film Festival, MUBI has unveiled the first trailer for writer-director Jim Jarmusch’s comedy-drama, Father Mother Sister Brother. The film explores the interconnected narratives of two estranged siblings, along with their mother and father, as they are compelled to face and reassess their fractured relationships after years of living entirely separate lives.

The cast features Tom Waits, Adam Driver, Mayim Bialik, Charlotte Rampling, Cate Blanchett, Vicky Krieps, Sarah Greene, Indya Moore, Luka Sabbat, and Françoise Lebrun. You can watch the trailer below...

“Father Mother Sister Brother is a feature film that is thoughtfully crafted as a triptych. Each of the three stories revolves around the dynamics among adult children, their somewhat detached parent(s), and one another. All three chapters are set in the present, each in a distinct country. FATHER takes place in the Northeast US, MOTHER in Dublin, Ireland, and SISTER BROTHER in Paris, France. The film presents a collection of character studies that are subtle, observational, and non-judgmental—an exploration of comedy threaded with elements of melancholy.”

Father Mother Sister Brother is set to be released in theaters on December 24th.
