The documentary John Candy: I Like Me, directed by Colin Hanks and produced by Ryan Reynolds along with John Candy's children, Chris Candy and Jennifer Candy-Sullivan, centers on the iconic actor and comedian John Candy. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and is set to be available on Amazon Prime starting October 10th. You can view the trailer below.
Candy, a cherished figure in comedy, began his career on the Canadian sketch comedy show SCTV. He later starred in numerous hit comedies, including Stripes, Splash, Spaceballs, Canadian Bacon, Uncle Buck, and Planes, Trains & Automobiles, the latter providing the documentary with its subtitle through a monologue from one of Candy’s most unforgettable characters, Del Griffith.
Tragically, Candy died of a heart attack in 1994. John Candy: I Like Me aims to delve into his childhood and early acting career, featuring interviews with family members and colleagues such as Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Macauley Culkin, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and more, offering a glimpse into Candy’s vibrant personality and his passion for making people laugh.
