Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson Embrace Animalistic Themes in Lynne Ramsay's Die My Love Teaser
The intense teaser for Lynne Ramsay’s Die My Love features Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson moving like lions, chattering like monkeys, and clashing like humans.
Set to Shirley Ellis’ “The Clapping Song,” we witness a previously strong chemistry devolve into anger, with the visuals on-screen perfectly synchronized with the lyrics, culminating in the unsettling line — “The line broke/the monkey got choked”/And they all went to heaven in a little row-boat” — as Pattinson embraces Lawrence’s neck in a passionate moment.
The Die My Love teaser remains silent in terms of dialogue — unless one counts Lawrence’s passionate animalistic sounds. However, several plot elements are clearly revealed, showing Lawrence twisting on a dance floor, licking glass, and gazing at Pattinson with contempt. A knife serves as a foreboding sign of ominous events ahead. (If you can’t see it above, the Die My Love teaser can be watched here.)
The film, which debuted at Cannes, has garnered some of the best reviews of Lawrence’s career. It is adapted from the novel Die My Love by Ariana Harwicz, which tells the story of a woman grappling with post-partum depression.
Martin Scorsese, who is producing the film, shared it with Lawrence’s production company, Excellent Cadaver, because he imagined her in the leading role.
This led to Lawrence agreeing to take on the role, while Ramsay — the Scottish director known for films such as You Were Never Really Here and We Need to Talk About Kevin — came on board as director.
The cast also includes Nick Nolte, LaKeith Stanfield, and Sissy Spacek.
Die My Love is set to hit theaters on November 7, released by MUBI.
Editor’s Note: The spelling of Ramsay has been corrected.
