Martin Scorsese will direct Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in the film "What Happens at Night."
Recently, 82-year-old Martin Scorsese disclosed that he has not yet decided on his next project, which could be a Dwayne Johnson-led crime thriller titled Home, The Devil in the White City, A Life of Jesus, a documentary on shipwrecks, or The Wager. However, there’s now another project to add to the mix. After previously considering a shelved Frank Sinatra film with the director, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence are now interested in collaborating with him on a new adaptation.
According to Deadline, the three are attached to an adaptation of Peter Cameron’s haunting novel What Happens at Night, scripted by Patrick Marber. This project will mark a reunion with Apple Original Films, which will finance and produce the film in collaboration with Studiocanal. Although there is no set timeline for production, we can hope that this recent activity indicates Scorsese will return to the set approximately five years after completing Killers of the Flower Moon.
Here’s a brief synopsis of the novel: “An unnamed American couple travels to a peculiar, snowy European city to adopt a baby. The journey is challenging, leaving the wife, who is battling cancer, in a state of desperate weakness, while her husband fears that her illness might hinder the orphanage from releasing their child. Upon arrival, the couple checks into the vast and eerily quiet Borgarfjaroasysla Grand Imperial Hotel, where the bar never closes and the lobby is filled with an enigmatic array of characters—including a flamboyant elderly singer, a reckless businessman, and a mysterious faith healer. In this puzzling, frozen landscape, nothing is as it appears, and as the couple struggles to secure their baby, they become increasingly uncertain about their marriage, themselves, and the essence of life itself.”
