The Summer I Turned Pretty will end with a feature film.
Earlier this week, the series finale of *The Summer I Turned Pretty* was broadcast, and just a few hours after it became available on Prime Video, Amazon MGM Studios announced that a feature film is in development to conclude the series in a more grand manner.
Based on Jenny Han's bestselling book trilogy, *The Summer I Turned Pretty* centers around Isabella ‘Belly’ Conklin, a 16-year-old girl who spends each summer at a special family beach with family friends. She finds herself in a love triangle with two brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah. As she grows up and prepares for college throughout the series, her relationships with Conrad, Jeremiah, and her family become increasingly complex as she explores her identity and desires.
The series features Lola Tung as Belly, Christopher Briney as Conrad, and Gavin Casalegno as Jeremiah, alongside Jackie Chung as Belly’s mother Laurel, Sean Kaufman as Belly’s brother Steven, and Rachel Blanchard as the boys' mother, Susannah.
Created by Han, who also serves as the showrunner for the adaptation of her novels, she expressed in a statement after the finale, “There is another significant milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I felt that only a movie could do it justice. I’m incredibly grateful to Prime Video for their continued support of my vision for this story, making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”
Courtenay Valenti, head of film, streaming, and theatrical at Amazon MGM Studios, along with Vernon Sanders, Global Head of Television at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, stated in a joint message, “*The Summer I Turned Pretty* has resonated with audiences worldwide, creating moments of joy, nostalgia, and connection that have turned it into a global phenomenon. We’re proud of the series' remarkable success and are thrilled to collaborate again with Jenny Han to give fans an unforgettable next chapter.”
Fans will have to wait a while longer for the conclusion of Belly’s story, as Han noted that a first draft of the script is written, but the film is unlikely to be released next year. More time is necessary to finalize the script and to allow the young actors to grow into their adult roles before production can begin.
