A biopic about ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage is being developed by producer Kenan Thompson.

      The excitement is building for a new biopic about the iconic pro wrestler ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage, as reported by Deadline.

      Kenan Thompson, known for Kenan & Kel, is producing the film, having previously collaborated with Macho Man on a Nickelodeon promotional campaign in 1999. The screenplay is penned by Eric Shapiro and Savage’s late brother Lanny Poffo, who wrestling fans know as The Genius.

      Randy Savage, who hailed from a wrestling family, launched his career in the early 1970s and became a leading figure during the wrestling boom of the 1980s and 1990s. He made appearances in both the then-WWF and WCW, earning numerous world championships and headlining two WrestleMania events alongside many pay-per-view showings. In addition, he ventured into film and television in the late 1990s and 2000s before passing away from a heart attack at the age of 58 in 2011.

      “I’m beyond excited for this project,” shared Thompson, who is collaborating with Johnny Ryan Jr. through their production company, Artists for Artists. “Macho Man is unquestionably one of the greatest of all time, and I can’t wait to tell his story on screen.”

      “Macho Man Randy Savage was the ultimate showman and the original bad boy of entertainment,” remarked Ryan Jr. “His outfits were as vibrant as his personality, and he is far more than just an artist; he is an icon. Lanny and Eric did a fantastic job capturing both this story and the wild wrestling era of the '80s that transformed wrestlers into lifelong pop culture legends.”
