Colin Farrell hints at a “darker, more intense” atmosphere for The Batman Part II.

As we wait for more updates on the highly anticipated The Batman Part II, Colin Farrell has hinted at his participation in the sequel and its “deeper, scarier” script crafted by director Matt Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin.

Farrell portrayed Oz Cobb/The Penguin in The Batman, a prominent criminal figure in Gotham City and a lieutenant in Carmine Falcone’s mafia. He returned to this role in the HBO series The Penguin, which takes place following the movie, where Penguin attempts to claim dominance in Gotham’s criminal hierarchy, employing manipulation and betrayal to ascend to power.

The series was recognized with multiple awards for its performances, writing, and direction, notably a Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Male Actor for Farrell, as well as a recent Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress for Cristin Milioti, who plays Sofia Falcone, Carmine’s daughter competing for control of Gotham’s underworld.

Although a second season of The Penguin has yet to be announced, fans of Farrell’s Oz Cobb will see him in The Batman Part II, albeit in a smaller capacity, as Farrell disclosed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve got an even smaller role in this one. But I’m okay with that,” he stated. He also hinted at the sequel’s darker atmosphere. “I’ve read the script from start to finish, and I can’t reveal much. But it’s deeper, scarier, and the stakes are higher. I’m truly excited to see it.”

The Batman Part II has been in development since the release of The Batman in 2022, but has faced multiple significant delays. Production is set to begin next year, with a release planned for October 1, 2027.
