Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair will have its first theatrical release in December.
Here comes The Bride! Quentin Tarantino’s iconic film Kill Bill is returning to theaters in December for the first time with Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, a specially edited version combining both volumes into a single film as he initially intended.
Kill Bill: Vol. 1 debuted in late 2003, followed by Vol. 2 a few months later. Tarantino initially envisioned the story as a single film, but Miramax opposed the idea, believing that a runtime exceeding four hours would be too lengthy for audiences, leading to a decision to divide it into two parts.
The narrative centers on the unnamed Bride, a former assassin who was nearly killed by her past employer and fellow assassins, resulting in a coma. After five years, she awakens and embarks on a violent quest for revenge against those who wronged her, leaving Bill for last.
Although Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair has been screened previously during special events, often hosted by Tarantino himself or in private venues like Cannes, this marks its first nationwide release from Lionsgate, showcasing it on 70mm and 35mm screens starting December 5th.
“I wrote and directed it as one movie — and I’m thrilled to present the fans the opportunity to experience it as one film,” Tarantino expressed regarding the announcement. “The best way to watch Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is in a theater on glorious 70mm or 35mm. Blood and guts on a big screen in all its splendor!”
This version will eliminate the cliffhanger ending of Vol. 1 and the quick recap at the beginning of Vol. 2, as well as the color shift to black-and-white during the Bride’s battle with the Crazy 88. It will also include a new addition: a never-before-seen 7-and-a-half-minute animated sequence, distinct from the anime segment that explores O-Ren Ishii’s backstory.
The cast of Kill Bill includes Uma Thurman, Lucy Liu, Vivica A. Fox, Michael Madsen, Daryl Hannah, Gordon Liu, Michael Parks, and David Carradine.
Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair will be released on December 5th.
