Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake announces release date in March along with new trailer.

      KOEI TECMO Europe and developer Team NINJA have announced that Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake will be released on PC and consoles on March 12, 2026. This remake of the classic 2003 Japanese horror adventure features upgraded graphics, sound, and controls to deliver an authentically eerie experience.       Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake has been completely reimagined to enhance its visuals, audio, and gameplay feel. Graphics improvements include upgraded textures, striking lighting, and shadow contrasts that create a more realistic atmosphere. The introduction of spatial audio further enriches the immersive and chilling experience.

      The franchise's hallmark gameplay mechanic, Camera Obscura, has been revamped to include filters, zoom, and other features that intensify the experience during combat and exploration. The zoom function is particularly beneficial for players who want to maintain distance from spirits or remain hidden while attacking. It also aids in exploration for capturing images of specific objects.

      Players can still attack wraiths while taking photos, but aligning the focus point with the target will result in increased damage. If a certain amount of damage is inflicted, players will trigger a ‘Shutter Chance,’ allowing them to deliver substantial damage with a single shot. Successfully activating a Fatal Frame during a Shutter Chance will enable players to capture multiple shots rapidly.

      The remake will also introduce new features, such as the ability to hold Mayu’s hand to regain Health and Spirit Power, the necessity to assist Mio if she falls, and collectible charms that can be equipped to provide various effects.

      Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake is currently available for pre-order on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 will open at a later date.
