John Waters’ Top 10 Films of 2025 Feature Eddington, Final Destination: Bloodlines, Sirāt, and Others
One of our cherished traditions during the year-end celebrations is a selection that often takes a more intriguing route than those of any guilds or critics’ associations. The delightfully unconventional John Waters, known for his eclectic taste that always features an element of the unexpected and overlooked, has once again impressed us with his top 10 films of 2025.
In an article published by Vulture, his list is headed by Ari Aster’s Eddington, which he describes as a “disagreeable but highly entertaining narrative as tiring as today’s politics, featuring characters that no one could possibly cheer for.” He states, “Yet it’s so shockingly funny and bizarrely both pure and kinky that you’ll feel delightfully mad and oh-so-cultural after viewing. If you dislike this movie, I loathe you.”
Also included in his selections is the newest Final Destination installment (which he refers to as “the finest sequel to the coolest cinematic franchise ever”), Oliver Laxe’s exhilarating desert rave escapade Sirāt, Alain Guiraudie’s humorous queer thriller Misericordia, Bruno Dumont’s outrageous sci-fi story The Empire, along with a number of overlooked gems.
