Tig Notaro and Zack Snyder are collaborating on the creation of a “hot lesbian” action film titled Deviants.

      After stepping in at the last minute for Zack Snyder’s zombie thriller, Army of the Dead, Tig Notaro shared that she and the director are now looking to collaborate again on a “hot lesbian action” film called Deviants. Notaro was brought on to Army of the Dead toward the end of post-production to replace Chris D’Elia, who faced sexual misconduct allegations. Snyder used green screen and CGI to incorporate Notaro into the film alongside Dave Bautista and the rest of the cast, despite her not having worked with them before. The response to her character, a helicopter pilot hired by Bautista and his team to rob Vegas casinos during a zombie outbreak, was reportedly very positive, particularly for her comic relief and appeal.

      Notaro mentioned on the podcast On with Kara Swisher that she was inundated with memes featuring her character and how audiences appreciated her appearance. This led to a discussion with Snyder where they began brainstorming an action movie with several “hot lesbians.” “I called Zack and said, ‘I’m receiving compliments from straight men, gay men, gay women, and straight women about how attractive I am in this movie. What if we just leaned into it and made everyone a hot lesbian?’” Notaro shared on the podcast. “He responded, ‘Oh my God, yes, let’s make that movie.’ So who knows? It’s a Hollywood project, and we’re in the process of putting the script together. Picture the poster: we have the title of the film, and beneath it, it says ‘Hot Lesbian Action.’ That’s how I pitched it to him on the Zoom.”

      She also mentioned that the working title of the film is Deviants, which is set in a historical context, featuring some closeted deviants. Army of the Dead was released on Netflix in 2021, with plans for several additional installments, including an anime prequel titled Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas and a sequel called Planet of the Dead, but those plans were canceled last year. Development on future installments of Snyder’s Rebel Moon has also reportedly been halted.
