Blu-ray Review – Super Bowl Winners: The 2024 Philadelphia Eagles (2025)

Super Bowl Champions: The 2024 Philadelphia Eagles, 2025.

      SYNOPSIS:

Are you a fellow fan of the Philadelphia Eagles? If so, you'll want to explore this Blu-ray documentary covering the team's remarkable 2024 season, which concluded with a decisive win against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. It's an enjoyable viewing experience, particularly as the current NFL season nears its end and the Eagles gear up for another playoff journey. The bonus features include detailed recaps of four regular season games.

“I am large, I contain multitudes,” as Walt Whitman famously stated. I’m not solely a film enthusiast; I also appreciate baseball and American football, and I've been a supporter of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles since my childhood in the 70s.

Indeed, I've relished both teams’ successful seasons in recent years, and naturally, the Eagles’ two Super Bowl victories have been standout moments. So when the opportunity arose to review a Blu-ray copy of this documentary, I couldn’t resist.

I've also been a longtime admirer of NFL Films’ exceptional documentaries, which I've enjoyed as much as following the Eagles. They’ve crafted a comprehensive recap of the 2024 season, culminating in the team's decisive 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. I admit, like any football fan, I find lopsided Super Bowls dull—unless my team happens to be winning, of course!

As anticipated, Super Bowl Champions: The 2024 Philadelphia Eagles adopts a game-by-game format to recount a season that began inconsistently but concluded triumphantly, despite starting quarterback Jalen Hurts being sidelined during the final games. Throughout, narrator Leslie Odom, Jr. guides us through flashbacks of crucial events in the team’s recent past, including drafting Hurts, hiring head coach Nick Sirianni, and acquiring key free agent Saquon Barkley in early 2024.

Naturally, the documentary dedicates the most time to the three playoff games featuring Hurts’ return and the Super Bowl itself. It was a thrilling journey for me as a fan, and I appreciated the recaps of those matches. As usual, NFL Films excelled in enhancing the excitement of these recaps, emphasizing “the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat” through the music and visuals.

One reason I’ve always valued NFL Films’ work is that I perceive football as akin to Norse mythology, whereas baseball resembles a stage play with its myriad personal moments. Football feels like two armies waging war, requiring teamwork to execute strategies, while the hopes of baseball teams can hinge on a single pitch between the pitcher and batter. This contrast is what draws me to both sports.

The extras included on this Blu-ray are a trailer and detailed recaps of regular season matchups against the New Orleans Saints, Jacksonville Jaguars, Washington Commanders, and Baltimore Ravens. These segments total just under 37 minutes and highlight Barkley’s notable backward hurdle over a defender in the game against the Jaguars, which is also featured in the main documentary. Go Birds!
