For All Mankind has been renewed for its sixth and concluding season.
Apple TV's acclaimed alternate history sci-fi series For All Mankind is nearing its conclusion. With the fifth season set to debut later this week, the show has already been renewed for a sixth and final season, which will mark the end of the space race.
Developed by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi, the series portrays an alternate timeline in which the USSR won the race to the moon, ushering in a new era of space exploration where NASA aims to venture beyond the moon and colonize Mars.
“Exploring the For All Mankind universe over six seasons has been a remarkable privilege, and we’re excited to have the chance to conclude the story as we envisioned it,” stated Wolpert and Nedivi. “We take immense pride in what this series has evolved into and are thankful to Apple TV and Sony Pictures Television for supporting us in bringing it to its final chapter.”
“Since its launch as one of the first Apple Originals in 2019, For All Mankind has consistently been an innovative and epic sci-fi series that has captivated audiences season after season,” remarked Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV. “As one of Apple TV’s most enduring and acclaimed series, it has excelled thanks to the remarkable creativity of visionary storytellers Ron, Matt, and Ben, along with our collaborators at Sony. We eagerly anticipate audiences experiencing this thrilling conclusion when the final season premieres next year.”
The fifth season will showcase the thriving Mars colony of Happy Valley, though tensions escalate between it and Earth as the former home attempts to impose stricter laws and control over the colony. Additionally, there is a prequel series titled Star City, which depicts the USSR's efforts to reach the moon and is scheduled to premiere in May.
Season five of For All Mankind picks up in the 2010s, several years after the Goldilocks asteroid heist. Happy Valley has transformed into a robust colony with thousands of residents and a launchpad for new missions venturing deeper into the solar system. However, as nations on Earth insist on establishing law and order on the Red Planet, conflicts continue to intensify between Martian inhabitants and their previous home.
The cast of For All Mankind includes Joel Kinnaman, Toby Kebbell, Edi Gathegi, Cynthy Wu, Coral Peña, and Wrenn Schmidt, along with new series regulars Mireille Enos, Costa Ronin, Sean Kaufman, Ruby Cruz, and Ines Asserson.
The fifth season of For All Mankind premieres on Apple TV on March 27.
