Jamie Bell will star as Duke Shelby in the sequel series of Peaky Blinders.
By the directive of the Peaky Blinders, Jamie Bell (All of Us Strangers) has been chosen to lead the notorious crime family in the upcoming sequel series created by Steven Knight. He will portray Duke Shelby, the new leader of the family, alongside co-stars Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), Jessica Brown Findlay (Silo), Lashana Lynch (No Time to Die), and Lucy Karczewski in her first role.
Bell succeeds Conrad Khan, who played Duke in the final season of Peaky Blinders, and Barry Keoghan, who portrayed him in the recently released feature film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, which concluded the story of Duke’s father, Tommy Shelby, as played by Cillian Murphy in the series. The sequel is set over a decade following the end of World War II, as Birmingham and the rest of the UK work to recover from the significant destruction caused by Nazi bombings. The official synopsis states:
In this new chapter of Peaky Blinders, set ten years after World War Two, the effort to rebuild Birmingham becomes a fierce battle of legendary proportions. This city presents both extraordinary opportunities and dangers. At its blood-drenched center is Duke Shelby: older, wiser, more ambitious, and undoubtedly more perilous.
“I am excited to announce a new era of Peaky Blinders, shifting the narrative to post-war Birmingham in the early 50s,” Knight commented. “We are incredibly lucky to have Jamie Bell stepping into the role of Tommy Shelby’s eldest son, Duke, along with Charlie Heaton leading the cast. More thrilling casting announcements are on the horizon, and Peaky is set to embark on a new journey.”
The details regarding the characters played by Heaton, Findlay, Lynch, and Karczewski are being kept confidential as the Peaky Blinders sequel, which has yet to announce its official title, has been ordered for two seasons consisting of six episodes each.
