The B-Sides of Steve Martin featuring Eric D. Snider
Welcome to The B-Side! Here, we discuss movie stars! Not the films that launched their careers or maintained their fame, but the ones they created in between.
Today, we honor our greatest living comedian: Steve Martin! Our B-Sides feature The Man with Two Brains, The Lonely Guy, The Spanish Prisoner, and Novocaine.
Joining us is our good friend Eric D. Snider, a dedicated fan of Steve Martin and an all-around intelligent, funny, and kind individual who once was a prominent film critic.
We reflect on Martin’s early career – his success in stand-up, his appearances on Saturday Night Live, and his diverse pursuits (he’s authored wonderful books and produced great music!) – along with the early comedies that propelled him to stardom.
We talk about Martin’s openness to play the straight man and allow other comedians to shine (with Charles Grodin in The Lonely Guy being a notable example), his gradual shift into dramatic roles (the extremely unusual A Simple Twist of Fate is discussed), and the remarkable variety in the quality of films throughout his extraordinary career.
