David Harbour is set to take on the role of Trautman in John Rambo.

      The Baker Team has discovered its Covey Leader, with THR reporting that David Harbour, star of Stranger Things and Thunderbolts*, will portray Major Sam Trautman in Lionsgate and Millennium’s First Blood prequel, John Rambo.

      Harbour takes over the role originally played by Richard Crenna, who depicted Colonel Trautman in the first three Rambo films alongside Sylvester Stallone as John J. Rambo. The role of Rambo now goes to Noah Centineo (The Recruit, Street Fighter), who is expected to be recruited, trained, and commanded during a tour of Vietnam by Harbour’s Trautman in what is characterized as an origin story for this iconic character.

      John Rambo will be directed by Jalmari Helander (Sisu) from a script by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani (Black Adam), with Sylvester Stallone serving as an executive producer. Also joining him as executive producers are Anthony and Joe Russo, who recently collaborated with Harbour on Marvel’s upcoming blockbuster Avengers: Doomsday, where he reprises his role as Red Guardian.

      In addition to Noah Centineo and David Harbour, the cast of John Rambo features Yao, Jason Tobin, Quincy Isaiah, Jefferson White, and Tayme Thapthimthong. Filming concluded last month, but there has been no announcement regarding a release date.
