Marvel will commemorate 50 years of Rocket Raccoon this July with Rocket Rewind.

Marvel Comics has revealed plans to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Rocket Raccoon this July with a special oversized one-shot titled Rocket Raccoon: Rocket Rewind.

“Rocket Raccoon fans are going to enjoy this special, which includes brand-new stories that celebrate his bold, daring, and cheeky journey,” said Marvel Editor Mark Pannicia. “I’m thrilled to feature the character's first appearance. That’s right, old chap; in that story by legendary comic creators Bill Mantlo and Keith Giffen, Rocket was known as Rocky and inexplicably had a British accent. It's all wild and entertaining!”

In addition to a reprint of Mantlo and Giffen’s original tale from the 1976 Marvel Preview #7, Rocket Raccoon: Rocket Rewind will include the following new stories:

Rocket Raccoon meets a mysterious galactic book collector before running into the one-and-only Rocky Raccoon (wait, what?!) in a mind-bending adventure from writer J.M. DeMatteis and artist Shawn McManus.

In “BoomShakaLaka,” MacKenzie Cadenhead and Enid Balám introduce Rocket to a paradise planet filled with good vibes and an immensely powerful artifact that’s ripe for the taking by a cybernetically enhanced creature with a bad attitude. Sound familiar?

Christos Gage and Todd Nauck aim to show that size does matter in “The Fight in the Raccoon,” featuring an unlikely partnership between Hank Pym and Rocket as they fend off a massive invasion force in Sub-Atomica!

Alongside a main cover by Ryan Stegman, Rocket Raccoon: Rocket Rewind will also include variant covers by David Baldeón and Mike Mignola; check them out here…

Rocket Raccoon: Rocket Rewind is set to hit shelves on July 29th, 2026.

About Gary Collinson: Gary Collinson is a writer and producer of film, television, and digital content, and he is the founder and editor-in-chief of Flickering Myth, a pop culture media brand. His production credits include the gothic horror film The Baby in the Basket and the suspense thriller Death Among the Pines. He is also the author of Holy Franchise, Batman! Bringing the Caped Crusader to the Screen.
