Production for Donnie Yen's John Wick spin-off, titled Caine, has officially commenced, accompanied by a teaser announcement.

      As fans anticipate the official fifth entry in the John Wick series, Lionsgate has initiated production on the upcoming spin-off titled Caine, featuring Donnie Yen reprising his role as the blind assassin Caine. The studio shared this update through a brief teaser as filming commenced.

      Yen’s Caine was introduced in John Wick: Chapter 4, where he is depicted as one of John’s old friends who is reluctantly compelled to pursue him under the threat of the High Table killing his daughter. Although John and Caine engage in combat, they maintain a friendly rapport and collaborate to outsmart the High Table. The last glimpse of Caine was in the post-credits scene of the film, where he was on the verge of reuniting with his daughter, but danger loomed as Akira, the daughter of Shimazu whom Caine killed earlier, approached him seeking vengeance.

      Caine represents Yen’s directorial debut in English-language cinema, as he directs and serves as an executive producer, working from a script by Mattson Tomlin (The Batman) and Robert Askins. Rina Sawayama will reprise her role as Akira, but no further cast members have been announced at this time.

      In recent years, the John Wick franchise has seen significant expansion, starting with the prequel series The Continental and last year’s spin-off Ballerina, which starred Ana de Armas in a storyline set between the third and fourth films. An anime prequel has also been confirmed, delving into John Wick’s “impossible task” that solidified his status as the Baba Yaga, along with a AAA video game for current generation consoles. Regarding John Wick: Chapter 5, Keanu Reeves and series director Chad Stahelski are in the process of developing the story.

      A release date for Caine has not yet been revealed, but it is expected to premiere in 2027.
