Christopher Nolan Aims High in the New Trailer for The Odyssey

We are now a little over two months away from the highly anticipated adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey by Christopher Nolan, which has been promoted more extensively in the year preceding its release than most films could ever hope for. Nolan made an appearance on one of Stephen Colbert’s final shows for an in-depth conversation and to unveil the new trailer, which is now available online.

Here’s a short synopsis: “Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, is a mythic action epic filmed globally using innovative IMAX® film technology. This film presents Homer’s legendary saga on IMAX® film screens for the first time and will hit theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026. The Odyssey features an impressive cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and Lupita Nyong’o, alongside Zendaya and Charlize Theron. The film is produced by Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan through their company, Syncopy, with Thomas Hayslip serving as the executive producer.”

“Emma [Thomas] expressed it perfectly when we initially announced the project: it’s foundational. It encompasses a bit of everything. I mean, it genuinely contains all stories,” Nolan told Empire. “As a filmmaker, you seek out gaps in cinematic culture, areas that haven’t been explored yet. What I noticed is that all the remarkable mythological cinematic work I grew up with – Ray Harryhausen films and others – had never been presented with the weight and credibility that a big-budget Hollywood, IMAX production could provide.”
