Several Fast & Furious television series are in development at Peacock.
While the mainline film series is reportedly concluding with the upcoming Fast Forever in 2028, it appears there is still ample fuel in the Fast & Furious franchise. Vin Diesel, the star of the series, took the stage at Monday’s NBCUniversal upfront presentation to announce that multiple TV show spinoffs are in development for the Peacock streaming service.
“For the past decade, we’ve recognized that fans wanted more,” Diesel stated (via Variety). “They’ve desired to see legacy characters and their stories expanded. For the last decade, the interest has been for us to move into the TV realm… I waited until the timing was right… It became right when (Universal chairwoman) Donna Langley began overseeing the process because I was assured that the integrity of the characters, their international appeal, and what creates our sense of family would be preserved in the TV medium… Today, I am thrilled to announce that Peacock is set to release four shows from the Fast and Furious universe.”
Variety reports that while Diesel is promoting four projects, they are at various stages of development, with only one currently advancing towards production. Specific plot details remain undisclosed, but Mike Daniels (Sons of Anarchy) and Wolfe Coleman (Shades of Blue) are set to be the executive producers and writers on the pilot, with Diesel also serving as an executive producer alongside franchise stalwarts Neal Moritz and Chris Morgan.
Fast & Furious began in 2001 with the first film, The Fast and The Furious, featuring Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, before evolving into a successful action franchise with ten installments. The films have earned over $7 billion globally and have led to numerous video games, theme park attractions, toys, and merchandise. The franchise has also previously ventured into television, though in animated form, with the DreamWorks Animation and Netflix series Fast & Furious Spy Racers.
