EntertainmentVC Rebrands as Rated Media, Shifting Emphasis to Artistry and Infrastructure - MovieMaker
EntertainmentVC, a media holdings company centered on creating iconic intellectual property, announced at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday that it is rebranding to Rated Media, or simply Rated M — a fully integrated studio dedicated to developing, financing, producing, and distributing content to commercial audiences globally.
This rebranding underscores a heightened focus on storytelling in all its forms, acknowledging that a song can evolve into a podcast, which can then transform into a documentary or even a franchise. Julian Warshaw, a seasoned music publisher and film producer with extensive experience in creative and financial roles, is spearheading this transformation. The company operates under the belief that “the best results arise when artistry and infrastructure come together,” as stated in their announcement.
Rated M has interests in both New York and Los Angeles, while also fostering connections in burgeoning markets like Toronto and Nashville. The company intends to collaborate with creatives from the initial concept stage to ensure projects are both “artistically engaging and commercially successful.”
The enterprise has also introduced Mulholland Films, a new initiative unveiled at Cannes, which is co-led by Warshaw and veteran writer and producer Dahlia Heyman. This venture aims to develop non-fiction and scripted projects from the ground up across genres such as true crime, music, sports, and culinary content.
This strategy signifies a shift from merely managing rights and financing IP-driven narratives to producing original content.
Mulholland's current film, Elvis, Rocky & Me: The Carol Connors Story, premiered earlier this year and received the “Best of Fest” award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
The film also screened at the Miami Jewish Film Festival and received a Grammy nomination for its accompanying audiobook.
At Cannes, Mulholland is presenting a lineup of films and series currently in various stages of development and production.
Rated Media is also set to broaden its technological focus by exploring the integration of AI tools into its creation and distribution processes, all while ensuring that human-driven storytelling remains a priority, according to the company.
