The Testaments has been renewed for a second season.
Get ready for a longer journey in Gilead, as Hulu has announced the renewal of The Testaments for a second season, continuing the narrative that started in The Handmaid’s Tale, derived from Margaret Atwood’s renowned novel.
The Testaments serves as a sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, taking place several years after the original series concludes. It centers on Agnes Mackenzie, also known as Hannah Bankole, the daughter of June Osbourne, played by Elizabeth Moss, who spent much of The Handmaid’s Tale attempting to save her daughter from the oppressive regime of Gilead. This series is based on Atwood’s sequel novel released in 2019, 34 years following the publication of The Handmaid’s Tale, which became one of her most popular works.
Chase Infiniti stars as Agnes, with Lucy Halliday portraying Daisy, a newcomer to Gilead, while Ann Dowd returns to her role as Aunt Lydia. The cast also includes Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Eva Foote, Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Birva Pandya, and Kira Guloien.
This renewal comes just one week before the premiere of the first season's finale, which will be available on Hulu and Disney+ on Wednesday, May 27th. The show is created by Bruce Miller, known for The Handmaid’s Tale, with Moss serving as an executive producer and making guest appearances as June in several episodes of the season.
As a continuation of The Handmaid’s Tale, The Testaments unfolds as a dramatic coming-of-age story set in Gilead. It follows the lives of two young teens, the dutiful and devout Agnes, and Daisy, a new arrival who has converted from outside Gilead’s confines. As they navigate the opulent corridors of Aunt Lydia’s elite prep school for prospective wives—a space where compliance is rigorously enforced under the guise of divine justification—their relationship sparks a chain of events that will alter their history, present, and future.
