Whalefall Trailer: Austin Abrams Finds Himself Confined in the Beast's Stomach
Recently awarded the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for his novel *Angel Down*, author Daniel Kraus' earlier work *Whalefall* has been made into a film. Co-written and directed by Brian Duffield, this thriller stars Austin Abrams as a scuba diver on a quest to find his father's remains (played by Josh Brolin), who ends up being swallowed alive by a whale. The cast also features Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy, and Emily Rudd. The first trailer for this project from 20th Century Studios has now been released, with the film set to debut on October 16.
The synopsis reads: “After the death of his father (Josh Brolin), Jay Gardiner (Austin Abrams) goes diving off the central Coast of California in search of his remains but is engulfed by a giant sperm whale. As he is trapped inside its belly with only an hour’s worth of oxygen, Jay begins to realize that the valuable lessons his father taught him may hold the key to his escape.”
“I can’t be trusted to say this, [since I co-wrote it,] but I think it’s incredible,” Daniel Kraus shared with our own Dan Mecca at Letterboxd. “It’s very emotional. Almost everyone who's seen it has come out in tears. I believe it’s fantastic.”
