While 2026 may not have been a standout year for Sundance—or the ideal farewell to Park City, but let's not delve into that just yet—some of the best films still left a strong impact. Among our favorites was Georgia Bernstein’s feature debut, Night Nurse, which combined erotic tension with notably nuanced character development—a film that simmers rather than strikes hard. IFC is set to release Bernstein’s film on July 10, and a trailer showcasing its escalating tension is now available.

As noted by John Fink in our review, “The second collaboration between Bernstein and Cemre Paksoy (following their series about a professional cuddler), Night Nurse is an intriguing character study that can evoke the early work of Atom Egoyan mixed with elements of Michael Haneke. The film's production design and visual style adopt a 1980s aesthetic, reminiscent of Douglas at the peak of his fame. The nature of the man he was before his health began to decline remains ambiguous, yet one can easily envision Douglas as a psychopathic lawyer or ruthless businessman who reveals his aggression only when about to strike. Night Nurse delves into themes of vulnerability and codependence as Eleni, early in the narrative, becomes obsessed with expressions of care. Her true intentions remain unclear until the final act, where possibly all our suspicions are validated.”
