Cemre Paksoy's Hands Are Bound in the Trailer for Georgia Bernstein's Dark Sundance Hit Night Nurse
Although 2026 may not have been a standout year for Sundance—and arguably not the best farewell to Park City, but that’s a discussion for another time—some exceptional titles still left a positive mark. Among our favorites is Georgia Bernstein’s debut feature, Night Nurse, which combines erotic tension with intriguingly subtle character development—a film that simmers rather than overwhelms. IFC will release Bernstein’s film on July 10, and a trailer highlighting its building tension is now available.
As John Fink mentioned in our review, “The second collaboration between Bernstein and Cemre Paksoy (following their series about a professional cuddler), Night Nurse is an intriguing character study reminiscent of early Atom Egoyan films with hints of Michael Haneke. The film's production design and visual style draw inspiration from the 1980s, echoing Douglas at the peak of his career. It’s unclear what kind of man he was before his health declined, but one can easily envision Douglas as a psychopathic lawyer or ruthless businessperson who reveals his teeth just before striking. Night Nurse explores themes of vulnerability and codependence, as Eleni becomes increasingly obsessed with acts of care early in the film. Her true intentions remain ambiguous until the final act, where many of our suspicions may be validated.”
