Disney is creating a TV series based on Warrior Cats.
Disney has acquired the Warriors franchise, commonly referred to as Warrior Cats, to produce an animated TV series adaptation named Warrior Cats.
The series, penned by Erin Hunter—a pseudonym for the multiple authors involved in the books—follows various clans of wild cats living in a forest, each clan possessing unique abilities linked to their environment. The upcoming TV series will adapt the initial book series titled ‘The Prophecies Begin,’ which centers around a housecat named Fireheart who joins the ThunderClan and must save the other clans and the forest from a corrupt leader.
First published in 2003, Warrior Cats remains ongoing with numerous series, each typically comprising six books, introducing new story arcs within the franchise. It has become a widely popular series among young readers, with over 90 million copies sold globally, and some titles have been transformed into graphic novels and manga.
The TV adaptation is being developed by A.C. Bradley (from Marvel’s What If?), who will be the showrunner, while Rodrigo Blaas (Finding Nemo) is set to direct for the animation studio Original Force. The series will be broadcast by Coolabi Group and Disney Kids & Family on Disney+ and the Disney Channel in 2028.
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, stated, “We’re always looking for fresh, imaginative storytelling that connects with families around the world. Warrior Cats has inspired a generation of fans, and we’re thrilled to team up with Coolabi Group to bring this remarkable series to life on Disney+ and Disney Channel.”
Allison Watkins, Executive Vice President at Coolabi, remarked, “After finalizing our development deal with Tencent Video in 2024, we worked diligently to find the perfect home for Warrior Cats. We are overjoyed that Disney has joined this project, and we eagerly anticipate delivering an exciting new series to Warrior Cats enthusiasts worldwide. With the successful launch of Warrior Cats toys in the U.S. in 2026, we expect a vibrant year ahead for the brand.”
Coolabi’s CEO Will Harrison added, “We are extremely thankful to Allison and former CEO Jeremy Banks for negotiating such a crucial deal with Disney for Coolabi and Tencent Video. Disney is the ideal partner for such a beloved brand, and we look forward to broadening the fanbase in both the U.S. and worldwide when the series debuts.”
Warrior Cats is set to debut in 2028.
