Disney has obtained the franchise Warriors, also referred to as Warrior Cats, to create an animated TV series adaptation titled Warrior Cats. The series, authored by Erin Hunter—a collective pseudonym for the various writers involved—centers around multiple clans of wild cats living in a forest, with each clan possessing a distinct ability linked to their environment. The animated show will adapt the initial series of books, ‘The Prophecies Begin,’ which follows a domestic cat named Fireheart who joins ThunderClan and must save the other clans and the forest from a malevolent leader.

Initially published in 2003, Warrior Cats remains ongoing and features numerous series, primarily with six books each, heralding new story arcs in the franchise. It has gained immense popularity among young readers, with over 90 million copies sold globally, and some books have been adapted into graphic novels and manga.

The TV series is being produced by A.C. Bradley (Marvel’s What If?), who will act as showrunner, while Rodrigo Blaas (Finding Nemo) directs for the animation studio Original Force. The series will be broadcast on Disney+ and the Disney Channel, in collaboration with Coolabi Group and Disney Kids & Family, set to air in 2028.

“We are continually on the lookout for innovative, engaging storytelling that resonates with families worldwide,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family. “Warrior Cats has captivated a generation of fans, and we are incredibly excited to work with Coolabi Group to bring this remarkable series to life on Disney+ and the Disney Channel.”

“After our development agreement with Tencent Video in 2024, we have been diligently working to find the ideal platform for Warrior Cats,” stated Allison Watkins, Executive Vice President of Coolabi. “We are thrilled that Disney is now involved in this project, and we look forward to delivering an exhilarating new series to Warrior Cats fans around the world. The successful launch of Warrior Cats toys in retail across the U.S. in 2026 has set the stage for an exciting year for the brand.”

“We are immensely thankful to Allison and former CEO Jeremy Banks for negotiating such a crucial deal with Disney on behalf of Coolabi and Tencent Video. Disney is the perfect partner for a brand that is so widely cherished, and we are eager to grow the fanbase further both in the U.S. and internationally when the series premieres,” said Will Harrison, CEO of Coolabi.

Warrior Cats is set to debut in 2028.
