The Debut Trailer: Jesse Eisenberg’s Third Feature Stars Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti

      While Jesse Eisenberg will soon be heard in the upcoming Minions film, his significant cinematic contribution this year is his third directorial feature, following the Oscar-winning A Real Pain in 2024. The Debut, featuring Julianne Moore, Paul Giamatti, Halle Bailey, Havana Rose Liu, Colton Ryan, Lilli Cooper, Maulik Pancholy, and Bernadette Peters, is set to be released by A24 this fall after what is expected to be a festival run. In anticipation of that release, the first trailer has been unveiled.

      The trailer reveals Eisenberg's style, reminiscent of Rivette, as it tells the story of a shy woman (Moore) who gets cast in a new musical at her local theater in New Jersey. Giamatti plays the domineering director who pushes Moore's character to her limits and beyond. Eisenberg, who is expected to make a cameo, showcased his talent in both writing and directing with his previous film, and this project appears to be another strong platform for actors.
