How to Divorce During the War Trailer: Sundance Award Winner Coming This August
A highlight at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, where director Andrius Blaževičius was awarded Best Director in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition, *How to Divorce During the War* has been acquired by Kino Lorber and Zeitgeist Films for its U.S. release. In anticipation of its theatrical debut on August 21, the first trailer and poster have now been released.
Here’s the synopsis: “Vilnius, 2022. Ambitious executive Marija (Zygimante Elena Jakstaite) selects the worst possible time to tell her husband Vytas (Marius Repsys) that she wants a divorce: just one day before Russia invades Ukraine. Suddenly, the couple must navigate the challenges of separation amid a refugee crisis and mid-life upheaval. A struggling filmmaker, Vytas finds himself in a difficult situation as he has to move in with his Russophile parents, while Marija grapples with the impact of the war on both her career and personal life. As the reasons for the divorce slowly come to light, the breakdown of Marija and Vytas' marriage leads to conflicts and opportunities for both, while also impacting their perceptive young daughter Dovile. Filled with unexpected twists, heartache, and introspection, Andrius Blaževičius’ intricate and timely family drama adeptly portrays the repercussions of a marriage amidst extraordinary circumstances with humor and empathy.”
