Britney Spears is set to receive a biopic, directed by Jon M. Chu, known for his work on Wicked.
Britney Spears is the latest artist to receive a biopic. Jon M. Chu, the director of Wicked, will take charge of the movie, which is scripted by Liz Meriweather, the creator of New Girl.
The film will draw from Spears’ memoir, The Woman in Me, released in 2024, which quickly became one of the fastest-selling memoirs in history. It will depict Spears’ journey as a teen pop sensation, highlighting her early hits like ‘Baby, One More Time,’ ‘Drive Me Crazy,’ and ‘Oops! I Did It Again,’ along with her struggles involving paparazzi, legal issues, and family dynamics. These personal challenges garnered widespread attention a few years ago when Spears fought in court against her father's conservatorship over her life.
As one of the most successful pop stars globally, Spears has sold more than 150 million albums in her career. Beyond music, she has also ventured into television and film, starting with her role in the 2002 movie Crossroads alongside Zoe Saldaña and Taryn Manning. Additionally, she made guest appearances on shows like How I Met Your Mother, Will & Grace, and Jane The Virgin.
Marc Platt, Chu’s partner on Wicked, will produce the biopic, which is being made by Universal Pictures.
