Hope Trailer: Na Hong-Jin's Science Fiction Thriller Set to Release This September
Following a contentious premiere at Cannes, the “final cut” of Na Hong-Jin’s sci-fi thriller Hope is poised to make its U.S. debut this month at the New York Asian Film Festival. In anticipation of its North American release on September 9 by NEON, a new trailer has been unveiled.
Here’s the synopsis: “In the secluded village of Hope Harbor, a strange creature has caused chaos. The police and local hunters embark on a mission to track down the beast, only to find themselves being hunted. However, not everything is what it appears. As fear spreads and reality starts to break down, the village is confronted with something beyond imagination.”
“Ultimately, this film aims to explore and express the well-known notion that all the world's tragedies arise from misunderstandings,” states Na. While viewers may be drawn in by the adrenaline-fueled genre excitement, the director simply characterizes HOPE as “a human drama.”
In his review, Luke Hicks remarked, “Hope Harbor is never dark. At least not while we’re there. The apocalyptic events of writer-director Na Hong-Jin’s eagerly awaited Hope unfold over one lengthy, intense, nonstop chase throughout a single day for its eclectic mix of small-town South Korean police, locals, and misfits, creating an ensemble that shifts from heroic to comedic in this chaotic creature-feature tale.”
