Domhnall Gleeson Explores an Unusual Territory in the First Trailer for The Incomer.

Debuting at Sundance earlier this year, where it won the NEXT Innovator Award, The Incomer is the directorial debut of Louis Paxton. Starring Domhnall Gleeson, Gayle Rankin, Grant O’Rourke, Emun Elliott, Michelle Gomez, and John Hannah, this black comedy is set for release by Sumerian Pictures on September 25, and the first trailer has now been released.

Here’s the synopsis: “Award-winning at Sundance, The Incomer is a contemporary folk fairy tale located on a remote Scottish island, where two siblings rely on hunting seabirds, sharing their ancestors' tales, and defending their territory from the feared Incomers. Their lives are disrupted by the arrival of an awkward council worker who aims to displace them from their home for the government.”

In his review, Dan Mecca remarked, “The prolonged introduction of The Incomer, penned and helmed by Louis Paxton, is highly amusing and captivating. The fact that the film doesn't attain such heights again is somewhat telling. Far away and secluded on a beautiful, lonely Scottish isle, siblings Isla (Gayle Rankin) and Sandy (Grant O’Rourke) lead simple, tranquil lives. They hunt and gather by the sea and among the birds. They mourn their parents, most recently their father, and keep an eye out for intruders on their land—whom they refer to as Incomers.”
