Has the superhero craze finally ended? Not with Spider-Man in the picture, as Marvel Studios and Sony's latest installment, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, has achieved an impressive $927 million in its opening weekend worldwide.

This figure is more than double the initial global forecast of $425 million, making the fourth solo adventure of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker the second-largest opening of all time, only behind Avengers: Endgame, which shocked audiences in 2019 with $1.22 billion. Brand New Day came within $2.3 million of breaking Endgame’s North American opening weekend record, earning $354.8 million domestically, while also setting new opening records in various markets, including France ($26.6m), India ($31.8m), Brazil ($23.8m), Spain ($15.6m), Peru ($8.6m), Colombia ($6.8m), United Arab Emirates ($6.8m), Saudi Arabia ($5.4m), Chile ($5.0m), Turkey ($4.7m), Ecuador ($4.1m), and Belgium ($4.0m).

In the UK, Brand New Day launched with $49 million, ranking as the third-largest opening weekend of all time, following Spectre ($63.4m) and Endgame ($56.0m). Other notable markets included China ($121.0m), Mexico ($38.3m), South Korea ($25.3m), Australia ($21.4m), Germany ($20.0m), Italy ($18.2m), Argentina ($10.5m), Japan ($10.0m), and the Philippines ($9.3 million).

In comparison, its predecessor, Spider-Man: No Way Home, debuted to $600.5 million in 2021 and eventually earned $1.921 billion globally, indicating that Brand New Day has a strong chance of reaching the $2 billion milestone—a feat achieved by only seven films thus far. It is poised to surpass Toy Story 5 ($1.066 billion) to become the highest-grossing film of 2026 to date, though we still anticipate the release of Avengers: Doomsday...
