Ranking All 10 Batman Movies from Least to Most Favorable

      Everyone has their own ranking of every Batman film from least to most favorable.

      Here is our ranking.

      Before we begin, we want to clarify that our list excludes animated films, movies featuring Batman in a cameo, or those where he is part of a team. This includes The Flash (mentioned above).

      That said, we do appreciate Michael Keaton’s role in it.

      Now, here’s our list.

      Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)

      Let’s kick off our list with what we consider the worst Batman film: a chaotic, CGI-heavy disaster that takes the dark tone too far and feels overly forced.

      While we like Ben Affleck as Batman, the overly dense atmosphere gave him little space to work in. The entire movie feels strained and uninspiring, starting with the title.

      Perhaps it shouldn’t even qualify as a Batman film since it is technically a sequel to Superman’s Man of Steel. If you choose not to consider it, that’s perfectly fine by us.

      Batman & Robin (1997)

      This film, in contrast, attempts too hard to be entertaining, filled with endless puns from Mr. Freeze, silly costumes, and overly vibrant colors. We adore Arnold Schwarzenegger, but this Batman movie doesn’t quite hit the mark.

      “As I always say, ‘Batman and Robin’ is a terrible film, and I was terrible in it,” George Clooney, who portrayed Batman, recently said in an interview with GQ.

      “Because I was, number one. But also, since I admit I was bad, it lets me say that all the other elements didn’t quite work either. You know? Lines like ‘Freeze, Freeze!’”

      Batman Forever (1995)

      In our view, every film on this list from here on is enjoyable.

      Val Kilmer might not be the most memorable Batman, but he definitely ranks high as Bruce Wayne. Jim Carrey’s Riddler makes numerous bold choices that are hard to dislike. Also, it’s interesting and eccentric to see Drew Barrymore and Nicole Kidman in this film.

      Tommy Lee Jones' portrayal of Two-Face leans towards the overly cartoonish, and it seems like the actor isn’t fully enjoying himself, but that’s alright. We enjoy this movie.

      Batman Forever stands out as one of the more unusual Batman films, and we appreciate that it takes daring risks.

      Batman (1966)

      This film is campy, absurd, looks low-budget, and exudes charm.

      During our early years, Adam West was the definitive Batman — composed, determined, and incorruptible. We didn’t even recognize the campiness at the time. It was delightful to see him light up the screen.

      We also love Burt Ward as Robin and the original lineup of villains, including Cesar Romero as the mustachioed Joker, the talented Frank Gorshin as The Riddler, and Lee Meriwether as Catwoman (we also adore the other two 1960s Catwomen – Eartha Kitt and Julie Newmar). However, we might be most fond of Burgess Meredith for his depiction of the Penguin, who really chews the scenery along with a cigarette holder.

      Let’s not forget the shark scene! We are fond of this movie.

      The Batman (2022)

      Robert Pattinson may be the finest Bruce Wayne/Batman aside from Christian Bale — we appreciate his disheveled, conflicted, and disoriented portrayal of the Caped Crusader as he grapples with his identity. His crisis is the standout aspect of Matt Reeves’ Batman, which draws inspiration from 1970s conspiracy thrillers, including Klute and All the President’s Men.

      Considering all the effort Reeves put into creating a new Batworld in this film — including introducing Zoë Kravitz’s Catwoman and a barely recognizable Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot — we eagerly anticipate what the sequels will bring.

      And it led to the well-received Penguin solo TV series.

      Batman (1989)

      Tim Burton deserves significant praise for connecting the two Batman interpretations familiar to audiences in 1989: the campy version from the 1960s series and the darker, tortured one that emerged from Frank Miller’s iconic 1980s DC Comics in The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Year One.
