The cast of the Legend of Zelda movie has been expanded to include Uli Latukefu, Yvonne Strahovski, Dichen Lachman, Lydia Peckham, and Sam Neill.
With Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie dispelling the shadow of its notorious 1993 precursor, Nintendo seems to have moved past its reluctance toward adaptations of its intellectual properties. The video game powerhouse has opened its treasure trove and quickly partnered with Sony’s Columbia Pictures to create a live-action adaptation of the beloved fantasy series, The Legend of Zelda.
Directed by Wes Ball (The Maze Runner, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) and featuring young actors Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, production on the film wrapped up in April of this year. Now, Deadline has provided insights into some of the supporting cast that will help populate the world of Hyrule.
According to the report, Uli Latukefu, known for his role in Young Rock, will take on the role of the villain Ganondorf, having signed a multi-picture contract. Dichen Lachman (Severance) will portray Impa, the bodyguard of Princess Zelda, while Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid’s Tale) will play a queen character and Lydia Peckham (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) is in a yet-to-be-revealed role. Additionally, the late Sam Neill is set to appear posthumously, although details about his character remain undisclosed.
Originally launched on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, The Legend of Zelda is among the most critically acclaimed and best-selling video game franchises of all time. It follows Link, an elf-like hero on a mission to save Princess Zelda from the monstrous Ganon (also known as Ganondorf), a formidable sorcerer aiming to dominate the kingdom of Hyrule.
The Legend of Zelda is scheduled for release on May 7, 2027.
