Disney is currently developing an anime series based on Kingdom Hearts.

      Disney has announced that it will adapt Kingdom Hearts into an anime series, which was revealed at this weekend’s D23 Expo and will be available on both Disney+ and the Disney Channel.

      “Kingdom Hearts has enthralled gamers globally with its distinctive mix of adventure and creativity,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family. “There’s a thrilling aspect to reimagining a world that fans have explored for years in the games and bringing it to life in a brand new format. Together with a creative team collaborating closely with the iconic Tetsuya Nomura, our new series will undeniably feel like Kingdom Hearts while offering fans a fresh way to engage with the beloved universe.”

      Currently, further details regarding Kingdom Hearts: The Series are under wraps. However, the official press release notes that “the series reinterprets the legendary adventure with an original storyline that will broaden the Kingdom Hearts universe while honoring the characters that have won the affection of millions of fans worldwide.”

      Created by Square Enix and debuting in 2002 with the original video game, Kingdom Hearts centers on a teenage boy named Sora, who is selected to wield the Keyblade, a weapon used to combat the dark forces of the Heartless. His journey entails navigating various Disney-inspired worlds and teaming up with iconic characters like Donald Duck and Goofy. The franchise has seen numerous sequels, spin-offs, and remixes, with the next main installment, Kingdom Hearts IV, scheduled for release next year.
