Pennywise coexists with IT: Season 2 of Welcome to Derry has been renewed.

      Following the success of IT: Welcome to Derry on HBO Max last year, the streaming service has officially renewed the Stephen King prequel series for a second season, which will take viewers further into Derry's past, specifically to the year 1935.

      IT: Welcome to Derry debuted last October and centered on a group of children in 1962 Derry as they confronted the demonic creature Pennywise. It delved into both Pennywise's backstory and Derry's sinister history during his awakenings, when he tormented the town. The series also incorporated elements from Stephen King's other works, including Dick Halloran, who later became the cook at the Overlook Hotel in The Shining.

      The synopsis for the upcoming season reveals, “Set in 1935 during the Great Depression, Season 2 focuses on the brutal massacre of the Bradley Gang, a band of bank robbers who stop in Derry for ammunition and encounter unimaginable horror.”

      IT: Welcome to Derry featured Bill Skarsgård reprising his role as Pennywise, with directors Andy Muschietti and producer Barbara Muschietti serving as executive producers alongside showrunner Jason Fuchs. For the second season, Brad Caleb Kane will take over as showrunner, having been a writer and producer for the first season.

      “We are thrilled to return to the haunting universe of Derry and to build upon Andy and Barbara Muschietti’s chillingly iconic adaptation,” announced Sarah Aubrey, Head of HBO Max Original Programming. “Along with Brad Caleb Kane, they will be treading new ground in season two, intensifying the terror, the intrigue, and the unforgettable Pennywise lore that fans eagerly anticipate.”
