Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now the second-quickest film to earn a billion dollars.
Following its debut with the second-largest global opening of all time, just behind 2019's Avengers: Endgame, Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man: Brand New Day has now become the second-quickest film to reach the $2 billion mark at the global box office. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, this Spidey sequel achieved this milestone in 17 days—unlike Endgame, which did so in 11 days—culminating its third weekend with a worldwide total of $2.023 billion. It has surpassed the previous installment, Spider-Man: No Way Home ($1.922 billion), making it the highest-grossing Spider-Man film to date and Sony Pictures' highest-grossing release overall. It is currently the eighth-biggest film of all time and is expected to surpass Avengers: Infinity War ($2.048 billion) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.048 billion) soon.
Meanwhile, as Brand New Day performs impressively at the box office, another significant July release featuring stars Tom Holland and Zendaya, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, has reached a global total of $1.291 billion, with both movies marking the year's biggest successes for the duo. Neither actor is anticipated to reprise their Marvel roles in December’s Avengers: Doomsday, though Zendaya will return to Arrakis in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three.
There's a BRAND NEW DAY for Peter Parker. As Spider-Man, he battles crime in a world where no one remembers him, facing the challenge of watching his old friends move on without him, which prompts a change within him that he may struggle to manage. This transformation might be crucial in stopping a shocking new threat to the city and those he cares for—a formidable enemy that remains unseen. Although the world may have forgotten Peter Parker, he has not forgotten them.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), features a cast including Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo.
About Gary Collinson: Gary Collinson is the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Flickering Myth. He is a writer and producer specializing in film, television, and digital content, with works such as the gothic horror feature The Baby in the Basket, the suspense thriller Death Among the Pines, and the horror franchise reboot Robert Returns.
