Johnny Depp is in negotiations to reprise his role as Jack Sparrow in the upcoming Pirates 6, which stars Margot Robbie.
Like one of those clever old seadogs found in the back of a tavern, you can always depend on Jerry Bruckheimer for news about Pirates of the Caribbean, and this update is quite significant. The super-producer behind the $4.5 billion franchise stated that they're in discussions with Johnny Depp regarding his return for Pirates 6.
Speaking to Deadline at Disney’s D23 Expo, Bruckheimer mentioned, “We’re talking to Johnny, we’re working on a screenplay, and hopefully, we can get this done.”
It has also come to light that this sixth installment won't focus primarily on Sparrow, with Depp set to return in a supporting role for the long-planned Margot Robbie-led Pirates of the Caribbean film.
Depp last portrayed the unforgettable character in 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which received the franchise's lowest rating (30% on Rotten Tomatoes) and had the lowest worldwide box-office earnings, grossing only $795.9 million.
Next for Depp is his role as Ebeneezer Scrooge in director Ti West’s (X) adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens novel A Christmas Carol.
