Take a first glance at the young Poirot in the origin series, "Hercule."
BritBox has unveiled the first look at Edward Bluemel (Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials) as the young Hercule Poirot in the origin series titled Hercule. Created by Benji Walters, the series draws inspiration from Agatha Christie’s legendary detective and explores his early years, influenced by some of Christie’s earlier stories.
Hercule offers an "intimate examination of Hercule Poirot the man and a grand depiction of Britain during the interwar period." The series will focus on three of Christie’s earlier tales while introducing Hercule Poirot to future friends, allies, and a specific adversary.
Joining Bluemel in the six-part miniseries are Henry Ashton (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), James D’Arcy (Oppenheimer), Calvin Demba (Supacell), Phil Dunning (Smoggie Queens), Jack Gleeson (Game of Thrones), Tamsin Greig (Riot Women), James Nesbitt (Cold Feet), Guy Remmers (The Buccaneers), Rebecca Rittenhouse (His & Hers), and Mawaan Rizwan (Juice).
Walters is scripting the series with Johnny Campbell, while Chanya Button and Alrick Riley will each direct two episodes. The series is being produced by Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited.
Hercule Poirot has been depicted numerous times across film, television, stage, and other adaptations, most recently by Kenneth Branagh in his trilogy of films: Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, and A Haunting in Venice.
Hercule is set to premiere in 2027.
