Janus and Criterion have acquired Paul Thomas Anderson's documentary on Cameron Winter for a fall release.
In 2015, Paul Thomas Anderson transitioned from adapting a Thomas Pynchon work to creating a music documentary; history appears set to repeat itself in 2026. Fresh off his Oscar-winning film One Battle After Another, PTA’s documentary titled Cameron Winter at Carnegie Hall is set to premiere this fall.
The film, aptly named Cameron Winter at Carnegie Hall, has been acquired by Janus Films and Criterion for all North American rights and showcases a sold-out solo performance by Geese's frontman in December 2025. Directed and filmed by PTA using 35mm and 16mm formats, the music was recorded and produced for this project (which will feature a previously announced live album) by producer Ariel Rechtshaid. It is co-produced by director and actor Benny Safdie and produced by Sara Murphy, Erica Frauman, and Maggie Ambrose.
An exclusive North American 35mm screening tour of Cameron Winter at Carnegie Hall will kick off on November 20. The prints, overseen by the filmmakers, will be produced by Fotokem in Los Angeles.
