The classic UK game Manic Miner is set to be remade for a new audience of gamers.
BBG Entertainment has announced that they will be rebooting Manic Miner, a classic ZX Spectrum game from 1983. This updated version is set to launch this autumn on all major consoles and PC. Upon its original release, Manic Miner was immensely popular, and this reboot promises to include all the original levels, the iconic in-game music, and the same frustratingly addictive gameplay.
Created by a 17-year-old Matthew Smith in 1983 for the ZX Spectrum, Manic Miner not only captivated players but also astonished the gaming industry as it was the first game on the ZX Spectrum to incorporate in-game music, despite skepticism about the system’s capabilities. The reboot utilizes the game’s original code and has been meticulously reconstructed to maintain its authentic look and feel.
This remake of the beloved classic will include all 20 original levels, presented in a visually stunning reinterpretation featuring detailed backgrounds, parallax scrolling, and a classic mode for those who prefer the pixelated art style. Additionally, there is an optional CRT TV mode for players seeking the ultimate nostalgic experience.
The original background music by Strauss and Grieg has been reimagined in a modern style, allowing players to relive the enjoyment of hearing In the Hall of the Mountain King while navigating through Eugene’s Lair (and yes, Eugene returns to challenge a new generation of gamers).
Furthermore, an extensive Manic Miner archive is available for those interested in exploring the game's fascinating history, from its creation in the early '80s to its emergence as a cult favorite. The game also introduces added features like online leaderboards and updated controls.
Manic Miner is set to launch this autumn for PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Steam, Windows, and Mac.
