Trailer for "Queen at Sea": Juliette Binoche and Tom Courtenay Star in Lance Hammer's First Film in Nearly Twenty Years

      After a long hiatus since 2008's Ballast, Lance Hammer's latest feature, Queen at Sea, debuted at Berlinale earlier this year and is set to be released in theaters on October 30. Featuring performances from Juliette Binoche and Tom Courtenay, with cinematography by Academy Award nominee Adolpho Veloso (Train Dreams), Greenwich Entertainment has just unveiled the first trailer.

      The synopsis reads: "Amanda and her stepfather Martin grapple with a moral dilemma that creates a rift between them. Has Amanda’s mother Leslie, who suffers from dementia, lost the capacity to make crucial decisions in her own best interests? And if that’s the case, who bears the responsibility— a spouse, a child, or an institution—for making that determination? As Amanda and Martin confront increasingly tough choices, the consequences begin to spiral beyond their control. This unflinching drama stars Academy Award winner Juliette Binoche (The Taste of Things), Academy Award nominee Tom Courtenay (45 Years), Anna Calder-Marshall (Wuthering Heights), and Florence Hunt (Bridgerton). The film received the Silver Bear Jury Prize, while Tom Courtenay and Anna Calder-Marshall were awarded the Silver Bear for Best Supporting Performance at the 2026 Berlin International Film Festival."

      In his review, Rory O’Connor remarked, “Eleven years ago, Tom Courtenay attended the Berlinale with Andrew Haigh’s 45 Years, a deeply felt exploration of emotional conflict where the British actor portrayed a frail romantic whose selfish nature threatened to overwhelm him. He returns to the German festival with a performance of equally significant depth and impact in Lance Hammer’s Queen at Sea, a film that examines an even more complex moral quandary—though with outcomes that are somewhat less intriguingly ambiguous than those Haigh presented in 2015.”
