Inspired by remarkable true events, the film narrates how two spies orchestrated the largest deception mission in history, featuring a grand scheme that altered the trajectory of WWII through a network of double agents, including Dusko Popov, the individual who inspired the James Bond series.

FORTITUDE is rooted in a remarkable true story and follows the bold and unpredictable spy-soldiers Dudley Clarke (Ed Skrein) and Thomas Argyll “TAR” Robertson (Matthew Goode) as they create the largest deception mission ever undertaken. With backing from Winston Churchill (Michael Sheen), Ian Fleming (Art Malik), and an extraordinary network of double agents—including Dusko Popov (Nicolas Cage), the real-life spy who inspired the James Bond novels; Juan Pujol (Jordi Mollà), a Spanish chicken farmer; and Nancy Armstrong (Alice Eve), a leading British Intelligence agent—they devise an elaborate master plan that utilizes a fictitious army, fake tanks, aircraft, and ships, as well as actors and phony radio messages to deceive Hitler’s Nazi Army in the lead-up to D-Day. Operation FORTITUDE significantly shifted the course of World War II and cleared the path for a free world.
