      Let’s take another look at these lesser-known Star Wars characters.

      Naturally, some are more minor than others, so we’ve arranged them from least to most significant.

      12 — Kitster Banai

      Anakin’s friend in Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace boasts one of the best names in the franchise. He delivered the famously uncool line, “This is so wizard, Ani”—and he delivered it perfectly.

      His role isn't particularly crucial, except for demonstrating that Anakin had once lived as a somewhat ordinary child with regular friends.

      And no, the individual on the left is not a young Greedo. We confirmed. His name is Ward.

      Now, let's move on to our next not-so-important minor Star Wars character.

      11 — Tey How

      Tey How is known for a single line: “They’ve gone up the ventilation shaft!”

      He uttered this line in Star Wars: Episode One — The Phantom Menace, leading to a wave of memes that poke fun at the cliché of the ventilation shaft, the awkward delivery, and Tey How’s overall ineffectiveness.

      However, dedicated Star Wars fans later discovered that Tey How—who isn’t named in the film but does appear in the credits—has a backstory revealed in a novelization of The Phantom Menace by Terry Brooks, released a month before the movie premiered.

      Beyond the "ventilation shaft" line, Tey How's minimal claims to fame in minor Star Wars character history include working for the Trade Federation, activating a droid army, and being killed, alongside many others aboard the Battleship Vuutun Palaa, by young Anakin Skywalker.

      10 — Hammerhead

      Hammerhead was among our favorite Star Wars action figures from the 1970s. We knew little about him, except that he had a hammerhead, which we found cool. His mere existence illustrated the endless enigma and potential of this galaxy far, far away.

      However, Star Wars then attempted to ruin the mystique by granting him a name, Momaw Nadon, and a backstory. A fan site details that in 1989’s Galaxy Guide 1: A New Hope, a Legends sourcebook revealed he had been exiled from his planet for divulging agricultural knowledge to the Empire to save his kind. He was also painted as a sensitive character who nurtured a secret garden and empathized with the Rebellion.

      Not every character requires a backstory! Some characters, like Hammerhead, are perfect as they are.

      Although he lacked a backstory, he still served a purpose: He helped convey the incredible diversity of life forms in the galaxy.

      9 — Walrus Man

      Walrus Man was a curious figure when the original Star Wars debuted in 1977: he was significant enough to have an action figure but not enough to warrant an actual name. Despite a tragic encounter with Luke Skywalker, he epitomized the essence of minor Star Wars characters.

      However, the Star Wars franchise, unwilling to leave things alone, eventually furnished him with an unnecessary backstory and the name Ponda Baba.

      To us, he will always be known as Walrus Man, as designated by Kenner.

      8 – Bossk

      His name is Bossk, a bounty hunter. Had he been a bit quicker or smarter, he might have captured Han Solo instead of Boba Fett and would probably already have his own Disney+ series. At this rate, every character on this list may eventually score a show on Disney+.

      He appears for just a few moments in Empire Strikes Back, and that's all we need. He’s awesome.

      But yes, he does have a backstory: apparently, he was partners with Boba Fett and Dengar.

      His primary function is to set the tone, suggesting that Han Solo's pursuers are indeed some serious-looking characters.

      7 — Salacious Crumb

      This sycophantic assistant of Jabba the Hutt is a puppet that engages in a scuffle with C-3PO and R2-D2, and possesses one of the finest names in Star Wars.

      His significance lies in his extreme subservience, which makes it clear that Jabba is indeed a Hutt to be feared.
