Carole Ann Ford's Susan is set to return to the Doctor Who universe with new audio adventures in March.

Big Finish Productions has announced the upcoming release of a new audio adventure set in the Doctor Who universe this March, titled Susan’s War: Grandfather Time. This new story follows last August’s Family Ties and features Susan tasked with monitoring her grandfather, the War Doctor.

With Gallifrey deeply entrenched in the Time War, Cardinal Rasmus is willing to employ an agent from the future to provide the Time Lords with an advantage in the conflict. Having brought Susan on board, she is paired with the War Doctor to keep him in check, and she is taken aback by how much he has changed from the benevolent grandfather she remembers.

In this fresh adventure, the pair undertake two perilous missions:

In The Last of the Kaleds by David Llewellyn, Susan and the War Doctor attempt to forge an alliance with a branch of Skaro’s distant timeline. As Susan starts to understand her grandfather’s altered demeanor, they uncover schemes and counter-schemes, as well as a strange dimension.

In The Voord Alliance by Andrew Smith, when a mission takes a turn for the worse, Rasmus sends Susan and the War Doctor to investigate the fate of a specific survivor, his daughter. On the ocean moon of Sarros Minor, they encounter an unexpected ally against the Daleks, but can they be trusted?

Throughout these two adventures, Susan learns about the changed man her grandfather has become, a hardened warrior who no longer identifies as the Doctor.

Carole Ann Ford reprises her role as Susan, while Jonathon Carley voices the War Doctor. Writer Andrew Smith remarked, “It’s an intriguing premise, as we have the Doctor who refuses to be called the Doctor and an older Susan who has carved out her own identity. She’s not just a companion but a Time Lord in her own right, often taking the lead and not hesitating to set her grandfather straight.”

The Worlds of Doctor Who – Susan’s War: Grandfather Time will be released this March and is currently available for pre-order from the Big Finish website, priced at £15.99 for the collector’s edition CD and £12.99 for the download. Bundles featuring the upcoming August 2024 release Family Ties are also offered.
