Dan Stevens is in negotiations to reprise his role in the sequel to Godzilla x Kong.
The upcoming sequel to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire might feature a familiar face from the Monsterverse franchise, as Dan Stevens has started discussions to reprise his role from the recent film. Stevens joined the Monsterverse as Trapper, a veterinarian employed by the monster agency Monarch, specializing in Titans and stationed at Kong’s site. If negotiations with Legendary prove fruitful, he would become the first returning cast member for the new film, following the recent casting of Kaitlyn Dever from Booksmart and The Last of Us, marking her debut in the Monsterverse.
The Monsterverse began with Gareth Edwards' 2014 film Godzilla, then expanded with Kong: Skull Island. After merging Godzilla and King Kong in the latest movies, Legendary extended the Monsterverse to television with the Apple TV+ series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, featuring Kurt and Wyatt Russell.
Grant Sputore will direct this new chapter of Godzilla x Kong, based on a script by Dave Callaham. While details are limited, it has been described as “a continuation of the franchise focusing on Godzilla, Kong, and various other Titans.”
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has earned $571.9 million globally, making it the highest-grossing installment in the franchise as well as the highest-grossing Godzilla film ever. To date, the Monsterverse has surpassed $2.5 billion at the worldwide box office.
