Addison Rae and Suzanna Son are set to join Charlie Hunnam in the third season of Monster.
Ryan Murphy’s Netflix anthology series *Monster* has added two new cast members for its third season: Addison Rae (Thanksgiving) and Suzanna Son (Red Rocket), joining the previously announced Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy).
Details regarding Rae and Son’s roles are currently undisclosed, but the season will center around the notorious serial killer Ed Gein, who is often regarded as America’s first ‘celebrity’ killer due to the unprecedented nature of his crimes. Hunnam will portray Gein, and the cast will also feature Laurie Metcalf (The Connors) as Gein’s mother, Augusta, Tom Hollander (The White Lotus) as the iconic director Alfred Hitchcock, and Olivia Williams (Dune: Prophecy) as Alma Reville, Hitchcock’s wife who also worked as his screenwriter and film editor.
Hollander and Williams’ roles align with the period when Alfred Hitchcock was adapting the novel *Psycho* into what became his most renowned and celebrated film. The story, authored by Robert Bloch, draws influence from Ed Gein, whose life and methods share similarities with the protagonist Norman Bates. Gein also inspired other infamous film villains, such as Leatherface in *Texas Chainsaw Massacre* and Buffalo Bill in *Silence of the Lambs*.
Murphy has expressed his rationale for selecting Gein as the focus for the new anthology, emphasizing the desire to investigate how serial killers became a prominent topic in pop culture. “After we did *Menendez*, Ian [Brennan, Monsters co-creator] and I discussed this idea of, ‘Where did our cultural interest in serial killers begin? Where and how did this all start? Based on our research, the very first one who became a celebrity at that level was Ed, who became an instant crazy celebrity from the moment he was arrested. Nobody had ever encountered anything like that. Then we discovered — he was obviously motivated — but he was schizophrenic. His transformation into what he became is a very intriguing story.”
Rae is largely recognized for her role in Eli Roth’s horror film *Thanksgiving*, for which she will reprise her role in the sequel, while Son has been seen in HBO’s *The Idol* and will next appear in *Fear Street: Prom Queen*.
*Monster* was created by Murphy and Ian Brennan. The first season debuted on Netflix in 2022, featuring Evan Peters as Jeffrey Dahmer, while the second season focused on Lyle and Erik Menendez, portrayed by Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch.
