Masters of the Universe has announced Morena Baccarin and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson will portray The Sorceress and Fisto, respectively.
The upcoming live-action film of Masters of the Universe has expanded its cast. As reported by Deadline, Morena Baccarin (from Deadpool & Wolverine) will portray The Sorceress, while Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson (from Captain America: Brave New World) takes on the role of Fisto.
Baccarin will embody The Sorceress, a formidable figure who protects Castle Grayskull and its secrets, though her powers can only be wielded while she is within the castle. Outside of Grayskull, she can transform into Zoar, a falcon that communicates telepathically with her trusted allies.
In various adaptations of Masters of the Universe, The Sorceress is also identified as the mother of Teela, played by Camila Mendes in the film, who serves as Prince Adam’s bodyguard and a companion to He-Man.
Jóhannesson will take on the role of Fisto, a brawny henchman working for the malevolent Skeletor, whom he has declared the ruler of the forest. Fisto is characterized by his large, armored fist and his ability to train fierce creatures, including his pet Arachna.
Directed by Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings) from a script by Chris Butler (Paranorman), Masters of the Universe aims to reintroduce the beloved Mattel action figure franchise to theaters.
The original series, which aired for two seasons from 1983 to 1985, comprised 130 episodes and centered around the classic battle of good versus evil involving He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe, and Skeletor, an irritable skull-faced villain seeking control of Castle Grayskull. A film featuring Dolph Lundgren was released in 1987 but was a box-office failure, eventually garnering a cult following over the years.
The cast of Masters of the Universe includes Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man, Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops, Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress, and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Fisto.
